Ooredoo trials LTE-A in the Maldives [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Ooredoo Maldives, the country's second largest mobile operator by subscribers, has successfully tested LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology. The company began offering commercial 4G LTE services for mobile handset users in Male in early December 2013, offering maximum downstream speeds of up to 100Mbps, and expanded the network to Kaafu Maafushi in August, notes TeleGeography's GlobalComms Database. Ooredoo is continuing to expand and enhance its mobile infrastructure, having increased 3.5G coverage to 95% of the population earlier this month.
