Barrett Steel outsources IT in £3.5m deal [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The UK's leading steel stockholder has outsourced its telecommunications to Azzurri Communications for next five years.

Barrett Steel, the largest independent steel stockholder in the UK, has awarded IT supplier Azzurri Communications a £3.5 million contract for IP telephony, WAN, LAN and wifi.

The Bradford-based firm has outsourced its telecommunications to consolidate its voice and data networks across its headquarters and regional divisions, which includes 30 UK sites.

Barrett Steel will begin using Azzurri's ICON platform, which offers voice and data communications on premise and in the cloud for remote working.

The company will move legacy voice services to a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which is a signaling communications protocol, widely used for controlling multimedia communication sessions such as voice and video calls over Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

The SIP is based on a Mitel IP telephony platform with 700 extensions. The wide area network will connect to office sites using a mix of ethernet, Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) and business-grade ADSL. Azzurri will also implement a new local area network with wifi support.

James Barrett, group managing director at Barrett Steel Limited, said: "We wanted a long-term partner that could deliver all of our networking needs within one contractual framework. With Azzurri, we are able to bring together our entire communications estate under one roof, safe in the knowledge that the continued evaluation of our business processes means we'll benefit from the most cost-effective and competitive IT & telecoms strategy." The new infrastructure also supports Barrett Steel's future technology roadmap, offering a platform for the deployment of additional unified communications services, such as video conferencing.

Azurri will maintain the networks throughout the five-year agreement.
