Apple's Cook addresses data privacy in meeting with Chinese govt [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Apple CEO Tim Cook raised the issue of Internet privacy with a senior Chinese official at a meeting in Beijing today, amid a brewing controversy over the government's alleged backing of cyber raids on China's Apple users.

China-based Web monitoring group Greatfire.org, this week alleged that the Chinese government was behind a hacking group that had infiltrated Apple servers holding private data belonging to iCloud account holders.

The Chinese government has strongly refuted the claims and Apple has yet to comment.

Reuters cited state-controlled news agency Xinhua, which reported the meeting took place between Cook and Vice Premier Ma Kai in Zhongnanhai, the seat of China's central government. According to Xinhua, topics covered included "protection of users' information" as well as "strengthening co-operation in information and communication fields".
