GreatNuts.com Releases Statement on Best Practice for Gourmet Gift Giving

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Arlington, Texas (PRWEB) October 21, 2014 GreatNuts.com, the retail division of GNS Foods, Inc., issued a statement today advising consumers about gourmet gift giving during this holiday season. The company wants consumers to be cognizant of common manufacturing practices so that they select the best gift possible.

Kim Peacock, president of confections manufacturer, GNS Foods, and its online retail arm, GreatNuts.com, has worked in the retailing and manufacturing sales industry for over 25 years. During her tenure, she has noticed an increasingly popular trend with retailers using larger packages to make it appear like the consumer is purchasing more than is actually in the gift set.

When purchasing gourmet gifts, gift givers often shop with their eyes and if something is visually appealing from the outside, they will purchase it. Peacock believes that before sending a gift, consumers should test out the company to make sure they are happy with the selection.

"You are just going to have to buy one and open it yourself," said Peacock. "You need to taste the product to make sure it's fresh and of suitable quality. If you plan on shipping a gift to your recipient, have it shipped to yourself first, so you can make sure it arrives in good condition." She blames this manufacturing practice mostly on fierce competition due to the economic conditions in the United States. Stagnating incomes coupled with cost of living increases mean consumers are spending less. Retailers are thus forced to market their products differently to try and win over the consumer.

One practice that many online retailers are well-known for, according to Peacock, is photographing a tin of goods to make it look larger than it appears. Many product photographs on the web also display products piled high in such a way that there's no way a lid could fit on there.

Peacock urges consumers to order their gifts in early to mid-November for advanced holiday arrival.
