BRIEF: Shark-based supplement recalled over salmonella [The Oregonian, Portland, Ore.]

(Oregonian (Portland, OR) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 20--An Oklahoma company that sells supplements over the internet is recalling a shark-based pill contaminated with salmonella.

A recall notice by AMS Health Sciences says the company is pulling bottles of Saba Shark Cartilage Complex after salmonella turned up in one bottle. The bacteria cause gastrointestinal symptoms and even serious and life-threatening infections. Shark cartilage pills are marketed for pumping up the immune system and for joint and mobility support.

The recalled pills were sold in black screw-top bottles under the brand Saba. Each bottle, labeled Shark Cartilage Complex, contained 60 capsules, with 500 mg. each. The bottles were distributed over www.sabaforlife.com from February through August 2014.

The company advised consumers to call 866-758-7222 for a refund.
