(ITWeb Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says enterprises of today and tomorrow demand a cloud platform that is reliable, scalable and flexible. Speaking at an event in San Francisco, CEO Satya Nadella unpacked how Microsoft utilises Microsoft Azure, Office 365 and Microsoft Dynamics to deliver the industry's most complete cloud — "for every business, every industry and every geography".

The software giant announced several enhancements to its hyper-scale hybrid cloud platform, including the new Azure G-series of virtual machines and Premium Storage, as well as the availability of the Microsoft Cloud Platform System (CPS), powered by Dell.

Nadella stated that enterprises of today and tomorrow demand a cloud platform that is reliable, scalable and flexible. He added Microsoft's cloud services are compatible with any device, including those running on Apple's iOS, Android or Windows Phone.

Scott Guthrie, executive VP of cloud and enterprise at Microsoft, said that the company's ecosystem is the backbone of its cloud platform, while also embracing of open source technology. "By helping to create an open platform powered by choice and flexibility, we are enabling the enterprises and developers of today and tomorrow to connect with each other and create new business opportunities in the mobile-first, cloud-first world." Guthrie also unveiled the Microsoft's G-series of virtual machines and premium storage for Microsoft Azure. Powered by the latest Intel Xeon processors, the G-series will be the largest virtual machines available in the public cloud.

According to Microsoft, the CPS, in partnership with Dell, brings together Azure, Windows Server and Microsoft System Center to deliver an "Azure-consistent cloud in a box".

"It's a fully integrated hardware and software solution that enables enterprises, as well as service provider environments, to benefit from all the learnings we've had from running our public cloud and be able to bring that scalability and efficiency into their own data centres.

"It delivers a consistent Azure-based management portal, consistent management set of APIs, same as we have in our public cloud, the same hypervisor and many of the core features that Azure delivers, Guthrie stated.

Guthrie noted that Microsoft has been hard at work over last the12 months, implementing more than 300 new services and features to its cloud services. These upgrades include not only significant improvements to infrastructure capability, but also to higher-level services, he says.
