SKULLY Pre-Order Campaign for World's First Augmented Reality Motorcycle Helmet Deemed a Global Success

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

SKULLY (www.skullysystems.com) is celebrating the end of its record-breaking Indiegogo campaign for the AR-1, the world's first augmented reality motorcycle helmet. Over the two-month campaign, 1,950 helmets were sold to motorcycle enthusiasts from 47 countries, grossing SKULLY $2,815,401 in sales, a total that amounts to 1,126% over the company's initial $250,000 goal. With that success, SKULLY has become the most successful tech campaign in Indiegogo history.

"Our team is truly humbled by the success of the campaign," said Marcus Weller, Ph.D., Founder and CEO at SKULLY. "We want to thank our supporters for believing in our vision and innovation, and we are looking forward to delivering AR-1 this coming year."

The Indiegogo campaign was launched on August 11th, 2014. In just eight minutes, SKULLY reached its $250,000 goal. In 45 hours, the company had raised $1 million, the fastest Indiegogo campaign to reach the $1 million-dollar mark. Due to global demand, SKULLY extended the campaign for an additional month in September, where it went on to become the most successful technology campaign in Indiegogo history.

SKULLY's successful pre-order campaign outperformed other well-kown companies who launched crowdfunding campaigns including Oculus Rift (acquired by Facebook (News - Alert)) and SmartThings (acquired by Samsung). With Wearable Tech revenue expected to hit $19B by 2018, SKULLY's crowdfunding success has positioned the company as a leader in the Wearable Tech space.

Now that the Indiegogo campaign is complete, SKULLY moves into its next phase: Production. The SKULLY AR-1 is scheduled for release in mid 2015 and will see the company showcase its groundbreaking helmet at CES (News - Alert) in January. Founder and CEO Marcus Weller recently spoke to NotImpossibleNow about the success of the campaign and how SKULLY is making motorcycle riding safer for everyone. To view the video, click here.

The SKULLY AR-1 is built upon the SKULLY Synapse™ technology platform that enhances awareness of its users by linking advanced heads up display (HUD) optics to an intelligent network including a camera, sensors and microprocessors. The AR-1 features a revolutionary HUD system, a near 180-degree rearview camera, turn-by-turn GPS navigation, and smartphone pairing with voice control. All of these features make it the world's smartest motorcycle helmet.
