Multitech business students top Cisco Netriders competition [Daily Monitor, The (Uganda)]


(Daily Monitor, The (Uganda) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Multitech Business School has emerged top in round one of the 2014 CISCO Netriders Competition at national level. This is the second time the school is participating in the competition aimed at building capacity of future internet architects by utilising Cisco's web technologies to create interactive networking and emerged among the top three. The competition also unites students from across the world and promotes further technology education and training. "This is the first time we are emerging top among all Cisco academies in Uganda but it's the second time Multitech Business School is participating in this competition. The first time the school sent three students and one emerged in the second position" Fred Lwanga, the head of the Business Computing and Information Technology Department at the school. The school was represented by Ronald Kaweesa, who emerged overall winner out of 10 selected students, while Joseph Nsubuga was ninth. "It was tough but preparation helped us. Out of the 100 students from different academies and universities who participated in the 2014 CISCO Netriders Competition, we emerged the best," Kaweesa, a diploma of computer science student said. "I am now on a CCNA Security scholarship and I know the next stage is going to be tougher but we are ready." While all university students in the computer science discipline are eligible to take part in the global Cisco Netriders competition at the national level, the international CISCO Networking Academy in the United States only selects the top 10 students from the first round to compete in the second round at the continental level. According to Mr Robert Kasozi, a Cisco academy instructor, students currently or recently enrolled in a Cisco networking academy course are legible to take part in the competition. "These competitions are a great opportunity for Networking Academy students to learn valuable networking information technology skills through a series of online exams and simulation activities using Cisco packet tracer," Mr Kasozi said. "Benefits for Networking Academy Students include recognition for outstanding achievement with hands-on practice and experience in a competitive environment, exposure to career role models plus a week-long trip to Cisco San Jose, California campus with other top achievers from around the world."
