GEICO revs up sponsorship of October 19 GEICO 500


WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--

NASCAR roars back into action on Oct.17-19 for the GEICO 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama. GEICO will serve as the presenting sponsor for the GEICO 500, one of the most coveted races in all of motorsports.

The GEICO 500 is the anchor event of the Contender Round in the Chase for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint (News - Alert) Cup Series Championship. The field of 12 drivers who currently have a shot at NASCAR's top prize will be trimmed down to eight after the checkered flag drops on Sunday, Oct. 19.

GEICO regional vice president Rhett Rayburn will serve as the Grand Marshal for the race and will give the most famous command in motorsports - "Drivers, Start Your Engines." ESPN (News - Alert) will broadcast the event live at 2 p.m. ET.


The GEICO/Germain Racing Team featuring NASCAR driver Casey Mears will be behind the wheel of the #13 GEICO Chevrolet SS. On Saturday, Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m., Mears will also host a live session for NASCAR fans titled: "Ask Me Anything" through Reddit.

GEICO will unveil a new event footprint for race fans located in the midway area outside of the race track. The branded site will feature Casey Mears' show car, Richie Crampton's top fuel dragster, Professional Angler David Walker's boat, the Miss GEICO AMF Off-Shore race boat and the Paul Jr. Military tribute bike.

The GEICO RV event team will also choose the winner of the Golden Gecko Award, which goes out to the most creative RV set-up located in the infield of the GEICO RV campground area.
