He is in his 35th year with the newspaper.

He joined as a senior reporter and has progressed through the ranks as crime reporter, deputy news editor, news editor and assistant editor before being appointed editor almost three years ago.

He is passionate about the Herald Express and the South Devon community it seeks to serve. He has spent a lifetime out in the voluntary sector, especially in the world of amateur sport.

He has played amateur football and cricket and is an ECB Level Two cricket coach. He has ran football teams and is the chairman of the South Devon Cricket Development Group, sits on the Devon Cricket Board, is chairman of the County Age Group and a county youth manager/coach.



He is a former Torbay Sports Personality of the Year winner and has received national awards for his work in cricket.

He is a trustee of the newly-formed Torbay Community Development Trust and sits on various business organisations in the Bay.


Angela Cappello Corporate Communications Team of Torbay Council ANGELA CAPELLO graduated in 1998 with a BA (Hons) in Public Relations from Bournemouth University. As part of her degree, Angela spent a year in the Public Affairs Department of Vauxhall Motors Headquarters where she learnt a wide range of corporate, product and government affair public relations and marketing skills. After graduating, Angela spent a number of years working for a national public relations agency in the South East where she held the position of Account Manager.

After her children were born, Angela relocated to the South West to raise her family and took up the position as Marketing Officer in Children's Services at Torbay Council in 2004.

In 2009, she moved into the Corporate Communications Team to undertake a wider communications role.

Her current portfolio includes marketing a wide range of large and small events, cruise ship marketing and marketing corporate services such as Public Health.

Stephen Criddle, Principal, South Devon College STEPHEN CRIDDLE is the Principal and CEO of outstanding South Devon College, the leading FE College in England.

Stephen has worked in education for over 20 years following time in industry and joined South Devon College in 2003, becoming Principal in 2009. Stephen is a trustee of the Devon Studio School and the South Devon UTC Trust and is passionate about the role of further education in raising aspiration, ambition and opportunities for Torbay & South Devon.

Gwyn Gibbons General Manager, The Imperial Hotel GYWN GIBBONS is the General Manager at The Imperial Hotel, Torquay. Gywn started her own career as a computer programmer, then moved into sales and finally finding her feet in a NHS training hotel, only to be offered the managers post. She later joined a company which franchised Holiday Inns as a sales manager and was part of the team who brought Marriot into the UK.

The first ever female general manager has spent her first year at Torquay's landmark four star hotel improving customer service, employing more local people and making changes with the aim of increasing occupancy rates and room rates.

Dave Pearce Newton Abbot Racecourse DAVE PEARCE, as Managing Director of Actuate Marketing, supports award sponsors, Newton Abbot Racecourse, in their marketing activities.

Dave's career has spanned a number of industries, from food and drink to local media. Dave and his team now help organisations throughout the South West in developing creative integrated marketing strategies and campaigns.
