CREATING THE BEST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: CERTIFICATION THROUGH CLASSROOM COURSEWARE [Techniques]

(Techniques Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAVE CORPORATION, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH APCO INTERNATIONALAND International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED), provides the latest certification and curriculum that best matches your students' workforce-readiness preparation needs for a career in emergency telecommunication. Omni-Gomm E911 Simulator Systems provide cutting-edge technology for the active learner to experience firsthand the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to successfully perform as a professional emergency telecommunicator, allowing your students to "make mistakes without making headlines." Following are five questions and answers that will help you determine if our product is right for your classroom. Will your equipment provide all software, hardware and curriculum for instructors to prepare students for emergency dispatcher certification? If so, what is the success rate of users? The Omni-Gomm simulator is the only product that creates a real-life, hands-on experience for students. SAVE Corporation has a long-standing relationship with APCO and IAED/Priority Dispatch for delivering curriculum and preparing students for certification. We have created the best solution for students by developing an environment that includes curriculum, real-world activities and an active learner virtual communication lab.

Our system is the only true simulator that replicates the exact environment for an emergency telecommunication experience. Our simulators resemble an actual dispatch station, with multiple screens and all stations acting individually; and they are mutually exclusive. Students are very successful at learning the various aspects of this career with our virtual communication simulator lab.

SAVE Corporation provides full installation on site and complete training on system operation. We also provide a complete money-back 30-day guarantee. Our warranty includes the Dell Gold three-year on-site warranty on computer equipment and a one-year software and hardware warranty. We also provide full technical assistance via a toll-free phone number and WebEx Internet support.

All equipmentlsoftware would have to be approved for use by our IT department. Are you willing to talk with our IT department and give them access to testing prior to purchasing your product? We have specific information and instructions that have been refined for IT departments to assist with installation, and we are willing to discuss this prior to any purchase. The main requirement is having an Internet access point to the provided network switch that all the stations wire into. Smaller systems are equipped with short cat6E cable for training purposes.

It is recommended that cabling be run in large systems by the customer before installation, along with UPS power provisions. More details are available with purchase.

Are students able to multi-task, e.g., respond to fire, medical, etc., with the simulator system? The Omni-Comm simulator system is designed to function exactly like a working console in a 911 call center. Whenever dispatchers or 911 trainers have the opportunity to use our simulator, they cannot believe how it perfectiy recreates everything they do on a daily basis. Our call-taker dispatcher station includes three computer screens: * The first screen on the left is the phone screen and is used to answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and TTY calls; make outgoing calls to other utilities/agencies; and a number of other features that a call-taker would perform.

* The center screen is used for the dynamic Web-GAD, which involves entering incident notes, assigning units (fire, police, EMS) to the call and mapping technology to assist in locating the direct position of the caller, as well as any available resources or units who are able to respond.

* The third screen is the radio screen, which is used to transmit radio traffic to role players (police, fire, EMS) in the field or answer radio traffic communication, as well as other features like voice/ text paging.

Students will wear a stereo headset that allows them to hear the caller in their left ear and radio traffic in their right ear. It forces them to multi-task because they must listen/talk/interact with phone calls and radio traffic simultaneously, exactly as a dispatcher would who is handling the job live in the real world. For example, if a student answers a call and must make a decision to get the information out over the radio right away, he or she can do so while still talking with the frantic caller, typing information into the Web-CAD and scanning the map for available units-all simultaneously.

All phone conversations and radio transmissions are recorded and saved for review purposes and evaluation. Students can also do a quick playback of what the caller said if needed or of the radio transmission for assistance in making quick decisions.

Are the simulations set? If so, how many? Can the instructor create areaspecific scenarios? We currently have 21 student scenarios designed for competition use. The APCO and IAED/Priority Dispatch curriculum contain many different scenarios that teach students how to prioritize and react to different types of calls. These scenarios can be easily adapted by the instructor for use in our virtual reality simulator system.

Will the emergency situation be local? Is the system tied to GPS to use local street addresses? After purchasing our equipment, SAVE Corporation personnel will install the system. Also included with the cost are two full days of training for the instructor on the operation and features of the system. This process also includes entering local data into the system to ensure that students will be focusing on authentic scenarios within the constraints of the communities the instructor chooses. The mapping includes GPS information and will zoom to local street addresses, as well as satelliteview options and, in some instances, a bird's-eye view.
