Hong Kong : PACNET selects ONAPP to develop self-owned, self-managed CDN platform [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Hong Kong-based major provider of combined technology solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, Pacnet, has selected OnApp to develop a self-owned and self-managed Content Delivery Networks (CDN) platform across its datacenters and subsea infrastructure.

Covering eight countries in the Asia-Pacific region, OnApp CDN has allowed Pacnet to develop a network of Points of Presence (PoPs) in these datacenters.

These have the support of additional Asia-Pacific sites from the OnApp Federation, OnApp's global network of service vendors that provide CDN through a wholesale service provider-to-service provider marketplace, and 10 high quality managed Federation PoPs in the U.S. and Europe.

OnApp said the solution allows Pacnet to leverage its investment in cross-region infrastructure, provide a significant boost in flexibility, and cut operating costs.

It added that Pacnet's CDN deployment was concluded in less than two months and after a vast proof of concept Pacnet started moving customers to its new CDN, and is currently live on the OnApp CDN platform.

Jon Vestal, VP Product Architecture at Pacnet, said : "Traditionally there have only been two ways for carriers to do CDN: roll your own, or license a third party network. With OnApp we've found a third way, where we can deploy PoPs in our own infrastructure and use the OnApp Federation to extend them however we see fit. It's great working with OnApp - we love the people, the culture and the technology. Together we've developed a CDN platform that works for our business, for our partners, and for our customers, who can target their content at very specific geographies. This is really where all carriers need to be headed." Ditlev Bredahl, CEO of OnApp, added : "Pacnet's CDN deployment really shows the power of the Federation lies in its diverse commercial application as well as its geographic scale. OnApp CDN gives you the software tools to deploy your own PoPs, set up zones and pricing and manage your content, as you'd expect, but when you add the Federation you suddenly open up all kinds of new opportunities. We talk more and more to companies looking to move away from legacy, licensed CDN to a more competitive owner/manager model. The OnApp Federation makes that easy: you can make best use of your own investments, and use whatever mix of Federation locations you need to amplify, or add new flavors to, or create new channels within your core infrastructure."
