FCC's Information Package for Broadcasters is Positive Step Forward in Incentive Auction

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 -- The Competitive Carriers Association issued the following news release: Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC or Commission) released an information package designed to assist broadcasters in their analysis of the opportunities in the 600 MHz spectrum auction. CCA commends the Commission for releasing the package, which includes high-end compensation estimates for spectrum rights in each market and IRS tax guidance.

"The FCC should be commended for continuing to provide broadcasters with information as they consider their options for participation in the incentive auction," said CCA President & CEO Steven K. Berry. "The spectrum in this auction is particularly valuable because of the unique propagation characteristics of low band spectrum, and all carriers have their eyes on the amount of spectrum that will be available for bidding. The Commission has consistently worked to educate all stakeholders, including broadcasters, on the opportunities afforded by the incentive auction, and the financial data released today will hopefully help make the case to broadcasters and their shareholders that they should give the auction a close look." "The FCC's information package clearly shows that there is a lot of value for both broadcasters and carriers in the upcoming auction, and I appreciate the detailed look at pricing at the market level. The information package affirms what competitive carriers already know - low band spectrum is incredibly valuable and is in high demand, and greater participation by the broadcaster community will benefit consumers and the economy. I thank the Commission for moving another step in the right direction with today's information package.

The more spectrum available for carriers to bid on - the better, and we look forward to our continued work with the Commission on this critical issue." [Category: Telecommunications] CC AutoTriage10PkS-141002-30TacordaCheng-4883700 30TacordaCheng (c) 2014 Targeted News Service
