Fiber Mountain Launches at Interop New York With Transformative Software-Defined Networking Solutions for Hyperscale Data Centers

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Fiber Mountain, Inc., a provider of transformative, software-defined networking solutions for enterprise and hyperscale data centers, launched today at Interop (News - Alert) 2014. Capitalizing on the power of true Software Defined Networks (SDN), the company debuted its Alpine Orchestration System™, SDN Optical Edge Switch™, Optical Path Exchange and Connectivity Virtualization™ solutions for data centers. Fiber Mountain delivers significantly increased network capacity and speed, while dramatically reducing complexity, latency and operating expenses.

"For too long, the answer to exponentially expanding network traffic caused by bandwidth-hungry applications has been bigger, more complex hardware in the data center," said M.H. Raza, founder and CEO of Fiber Mountain, Inc. "This has resulted in huge capital expenditures and operational issues related to size, complexity and power consumption of the data center's expanding architecture. This is simply not sustainable. Fiber Mountain has taken an approach to helping enterprises simplify the network, and manage growth through software-based intelligence accompanied by a reduction in hardware proliferation, allowing data centers to reach hyperscale at a fraction of the cost."

"The advent of cloud is driving growth of modern data centers at exponential rates, bringing with it related complexity around IT Infrastructure sprawl which is difficult to manage," said Rohit Mehra, Vice President, Network Architecture, IDC (News - Alert). "Without question, hyperscale and other large data centers are looking for solutions that can help manage growth. Emerging vendors such as Fiber Mountain are helping provide the much needed vision to simplify network architectures with centralized and dynamic control over packet flows, enabling unprecedented efficiency within data center networks."

Fiber Mountain's SDN Solutions

Fiber Mountain's Alpine Orchestation System (AOS) is a single pane intelligent software application that can discover and visually present every device and connection within a data center network. In addition to switches, it is able to dynamically learn and catalogue each individual cable connection and patch panel in a network, and configure or move connections from any port on a switch, server, storage device, or patch panel to any other port via software.

Fiber Mountain's architecture is based on a Glass Core™ that can connect a Fiber Mountain Optical Edge Switch (Top-Of-Rack switch) to any other switch or device directly, without any aggregation, spine, or core packet switches in the network. Alpine Orchestration System is able to create Programmable Light Paths™ (PLP) between any two points at 10, 40 or 100 Gbps across the Glass Core. The Glass Core replaces costly, massive core switches with a fiber optic connectivity fabric that reduces operation costs and has a fraction of the latency of core switching networks. It is comprised of intelligent fiber optic cables that communicate with AOS, and Fiber Mountain's Optical Path Exchange which is 50 times faster than the fastest core switch in the industry. This architecture can also work with white box top-of-rack switches.

Connectivity Virtualization is the next logical step after compute virtualization and network virtualization. An intelligent cable infrastructure is a fundamental building block of the connection fabric for the Glass Core. The technology allows for remote monitoring and logging of cable placement in the network architecture via the Alpine Orchestration System. It virtually eliminates human error by enabling remote fiber changes from a control station without an employee ever having to set foot in a data center.

Fiber Mountain is demonstrating its Alpine Orchestration System, Optical Edge Switch and Connectivity Virtualization solutions in booth 505 at Interop NY 2014, October 1-2, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
