Anatel clears AT&T's Sky Brasil purchase [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Brazil's telecoms regulator Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes (Anatel) has issued its approval for US telecom giant AT&T's planned purchase of Sky Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of pay-TV group DirecTV, via a notice published in the country's Official Gazette, reports local technology news source Digital Convergence. As reported by CommsUpdate in July, Brazil's antitrust regulator the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (or Cade) approved without restrictions AT&T's USD48.5 billion takeover of DirecTV Latin America, serving 18.1 million subscribers across the region and owning 93% of pay-TV provider Sky Brasil, which also holds 4G wireless spectrum.
