CSR Oman 2014 Summit Addresses National Sustainability [Oman News Agency]


(Oman News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Muscat, Sep 29 (ONA) --- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Oman 2014, a summit that has brought together the Omani business community to debate and discuss the CSR changing role was inaugurated under the auspices of Sultan bin Salim al-Habsi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning (SCP) at the Grand Hyatt Muscat Hotel today.



The two-day conference is organized by Informa Middle East, in association with the Capital Market Authority (CMA), Oman Oil Company (OOC) and the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL). The conference kicked-off yesterday with two pre-summit workshops.

Sultan bin Salim al-Habsi, SCP Secretary General stressed the importance of setting up sustainable projects that provide job opportunities and develop SMEs. He urged all major, joint stock and family companies to play their role in CSR.


He added that Government companies, the same as other companies, are playing a great role in CSR. Hence, all should cooperate to carry out a greater role during the upcoming period in this aspect.

Yahya bin Said al-Jabri, Chairman of the CMA Board of Directors said in the opening speech, "CSR is crucial for sustainable development and partnership between the public and private sectors for economic growth. Through supporting social, economic and cultural programs, we can assure a brighter future for the coming generations. Therefore, it is essential to a have a comprehensive vision, mutual cooperation, innovative initiatives and shared efforts to make the CSR more effective which is the main goal of this summit".

Mulham Al Jarf, Deputy CEO of OOC said, "It is Oman Oil Company's strategy to make significant contributions on the CSR and sustainability development front. The summit is a great platform to plan and implement tangible ways to benefit our community".

Today's panel discussions, with participation of international experts, focused on the work of Government institutions towards supporting the adoption of CSR and sustainability policies, and their positive impact in the local community.

The discussion on the government outlook focused on the current infrastructure and network for successful CSR initiatives, and illustrated the success of CSR initiatives in making an impact on social and community development.

The conference's opening ceremony was attended by a number of CEOs, businessmen, those in-charge of CSR units at major companies and establishments in the Sultanate, represented the public and private sectors, as well as a number of NGOs concerned with CSR activities.
