Jericho Systems Corporation to Provide Live Demonstration for ONC Privacy on FHIR Initiative

DALLAS --(Business Wire)--

Jericho Systems Corporation, creator of advanced data security and privacy products, announced that it has been contracted to support the Privacy on Fast Health Interoperable Resources (FHIR®) initiative for the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology. FHIR is an emerging Health Level Seven (HL7) standard that has garnered interest due to its modular and interoperable web-friendly approach.

Under the ONC contract, Jericho will investigate the use of HL7 FHIR and other standards (including OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect, and the User-Managed Access (UMA) profile of OAuth 2.0) with Jericho's EnterSpace® Exchange 2.0 software to provide a REST-based interoperability demonstration of patient consent directives (PCD) in a multiprotocol environment with a cloud-based PCD repository. The demonstration is scheduled to take place at the HIMSS15 convention, with participation from other organizations to include the U.S. Veterans Administration, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT (News - Alert))-Kerberos Consortium, Patient Privacy Rights, ONC, and HL7.

"The new FHIR standard provides a RESTful approach for the controlled sharing of healthcare information," said David Staggs, CTO of Jericho Systems. "We are excited to be part of an effort that incorporates consumer-supported authentication and authorization standards while allowing patients to express their fine-grained consent directives over FHIR."

TheHL7 FHIR demonstration follows Jericho's Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P) pilot for the ONC Standard and Interoperability (S&I) Framework, which resulted in the HL7 Implementation Guide: Data Segmentation for Privacy (DS4P). DS4P complies with the HL7 Health Classification System (HCS) metadata tagging of healthcare-related information using standard privacy attributes. This approach allows dynamic redaction of sensitive information based on defined privacy policies.

"The ONC's Privacy on FHIR initiative has enormous potential to improve patient engagement and education for consent management," said Brynn Mow CEO. "Supporting privacy while improving enterprise interoperability was a top objective in designing EnterSpace Exchange 2.0."

The prime contractor for this award is Rainmakers Strategic Solutions. Rainmakers Strategic Solutions is a health care focused, woman-owned small disadvantaged business dedicated to providing innovative, insightful and practical solutions to government agencies, including CMS, HHS, VA and MHS.
