O2 Slovakia to launch LTE network in Bratislava and Kosice in December 2014 [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mobile phone operator O2 Slovakia, a unit of O2 Czech Republic, said it plans to launch 4G services in Slovakia's capital Bratislava and the eastern city of Kosice in December this year.



The company targets to expand the LTE network so that it covers 50% of the country's population by the end of next year and to 70% before the 2018 mandatory deadline, it said in a statement. The telecom operator also wants to continue expanding its 3G network and upgrade the 2G network.

In August 2012, 02 started the commercial operation of a pilot 4G network in certain towns in western Slovakia and in 2013 it bought a frequency for the 4G network.


O2 Slovakia's total operating revenues grew 0.8% on the year to EUR 103mn in the first half of 2014, fuelled by a customers' growth.
