Eastern Germany to Become the New European ICT Hub

(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Investor conference in Washington, DC BERLIN and WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2014 /CNW/ - The US network security company FireEye has recently opened its new R&D centre in Dresden, Saxony. With Dresden being the key region of "Silicon Saxony", the location completely fulfilled the company's requirements: an excellent economic and scientific infrastructure combined with the availability of highly-skilled and motivated workers.

With this background, Germany Trade & Invest together with the US partner incubator 1776 is organizing an exclusive investor conference in Washington, DC on September 30, 2014, with a focus on Eastern Germany's ICT industry.

"The FireEye settlement is the most recent example of the engagement of international ICT-companies in Germany. Eastern Germany has established itself as a highly competitive and innovative industry and technology location within Europe," says Dr. Benno Bunse, Chairman & CEO at Germany Trade & Invest.

The United States is the most important market for the ICT industry worldwide. At the same time many ICT-companies from the US are internationally oriented and frequently on the lookout for new business opportunities in foreign markets. However, they require a modern infrastructure and an intensive network partnership between companies and research institutions. "This is where Eastern Germany comes into play. With its numerous universities, R&D facilities, and business clusters, Eastern Germany is the perfect match for foreign tech companies," Dr. Bunse adds.

The research aspect is one the main reasons why Eastern Germany is attractive for many high-tech companies - especially from the ICT industry. At least five Fraunhofer Institutes in Eastern Germany have a research focus on information and communication technologies. Research is being conducted in fields such as cloud and grid computing, IT security, software engineering, big data and e-business.
