Hines named town treasurer [The Carroll News, Hillsville, Va.]

(Carroll News, The (Hillsville, VA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 23--LeAnna A. Hines was hired as Hillsville's treasurer during the Sept. 22 town council meeting. Hines replaces Judy Bolt who resigned that position on Aug. 19.

Following a closed session, Councilman Ed Terry made the motion to hire Hines. The motion passed 3-0 with Councilman Bill Tate abstaining.

Hines, who graduated from James Madison University with a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, will begin her work with the town on Oct. 16.

"She's very, very energetic and we really like her education and experience," said Mayor Greg Crowder of reasons behind council's decision to hire Hines. Crowder added that Hines plans to move from Independence to Hillsville in the near future.

While at JMU, Hines worked with the university's service-learning program. Among her duties were tracking and reconciling department purchasing, coordinating payments and accounting for tax deductible donations, and aiding the fiscal technician in managing a state budget of over $600,000.

During the summer of 2012, Hines worked for Elliott Davis, one of the largest accounting, tax and consulting services firms in the Southeast. As an audit intern, she verified loan requirements, completed audit programs, traced transactions, evaluated employee reimbursements, and prepared bank confirmations for accounts receivable.

After graduating from JMU in 2013, Hines worked as an accounting/IT intern for Milo C. Cockerham, Inc. Under the supervision of the company's chief financial officer, she constructed spread sheets for sales comparisons and price changes, reviewed the automated accounting system and compared records, scheduled deliveries and maintenance, created invoices and received payments. Her IT duties included executing computer updates and installing new software, constructing a webpage outline, analyzing and resolving miscellaneous technical issues, and preparing obsolete equipment for sale on e-bay.

During that same time, Hines was employed as the manager for Fort Valley Ranch, where she was in charge of monitoring online scheduling, maintaining customer invoices and payments, providing customer service, and calculating employee paydays and performing all owner responsibilities when assigned.

Hines joined Jane Patton CPA, LLC as a staff accountant in January of 2014. While there, she prepared various internal reports and tax documents, including payroll checks, quarterly and yearly payroll tax returns, internal reports and financial statements for management purposes, W2 and 1099 employer tax forms, and individual, partnership, S Corp and non-profit tax returns.

Hines' non-employee activities include leading her team to a top-25 finish in JMU's business plan competition, and working in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, where she mentored novice Big Sisters, and prepared activities that contributed to child development and academic success. In addition, Hines was a four-time National High School Rodeo Finals qualifier and state champion while attending Grayson County High School.
