Spanish-Japanese conglomerate completes first photovoltaic plant in Japan

(EFE Ingles Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Tokyo, Sep 23 (EFE).- Europe Clean Energies, or ECE, a Spanish-Japanese conglomerate, Tuesday announced it had completed the construction of its first photovoltaic project in Japan.

The plant, which has a capacity to generate 2 MW of electricity, is located in the Tsukuba district in central Japan's Ibaraki prefecture, some 40 km (25 miles) northeast of Tokyo, said the company in a statement.

ECE began construction on the plant in February this year after acquiring a feed-in-tariff of $0.39 per kilowatt transferred to the regional electrical grid.

The project uses two ABB 1 MW stations and 7,950 Canadian Solar modules of 255 W each.

In addition to the plant, a "turnkey" project for a private investor, ECE plans to start constructing two other photovoltaic power stations in the Ibaraki prefecture soon.

After the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident in March 2011, the Japanese government accelerated reforms in the energy sector to encourage production through renewable sources in order to reduce dependence on nuclear power in the future.
