AllSeen Alliance Grows to 71 Members, Nearly Triples Member Base in Nine Months

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/23/14 -- The AllSeen Alliance, a cross-industry collaboration to advance the Internet of Everything through an open source software project, today announced the addition of six new members -- Innopia Technologies, ISI Technologies, LightFreq, M2Communication, Ping Identity and Tellient. The AllSeen Alliance now totals 71 members, up from 24 members upon its formation in December 2013.

Members of the AllSeen Alliance, the world's largest open source Internet of Things initiative, are collaborating to advance the seamless connection of a range of objects and devices in homes, cars and businesses by building out an open source software framework, called AllJoyn™. Through code that is available today and updated through contributions by members and the open source community, AllJoyn acts as a universal translator for devices to interact regardless of brand and other infrastructure considerations.

In its recently released 2014 State of the Internet of Things study, Acquity Group, part of Accenture Interactive, estimated that 69 percent of consumers will own an in-home Internet of Things device by 2019, versus only 4 percent who own one now. Gartner predicts that by 2022, the typical family home could contain more than 500 smart devices.

"With 71 members and nine working groups, as well as two new releases of the AllJoyn framework since the AllSeen Alliance was created nine months ago, the Alliance's dramatic growth illustrates the industry's strong desire for an open, universal platform that creates a truly connected experience," said Joe Speed, director, IoT, at the AllSeen Alliance. "We're excited to welcome these new members and their expertise as we work to advance the Internet of Everything." The Alliance's new members are innovators in home automation, smart devices, connected lighting, identity management, data analytics and broadcast and broadband services. More about the members: Innopia Technologies is a leader in technology, products and services for the broadcast and broadband industries. The company provides smart media device platforms, including smart OTT set top boxes, optimized for the requirements of pay TV service providers, telcos and consumer electronics.

"An open source platform is crucial to device interoperability for the Internet of Everything," said Manho Jang, CEO, Innopia Technologies. "We are excited to collaborate with the members of the Alliance and help foster innovation for a connected world." ISI Technologies' Heatworks MODEL 1 offers energy and water efficiencies through a digital, tankless, WiFi-enabled water heater. The Heatworks MODEL 1 allows users to replace or improve any existing water heating system while reducing energy and water usage. This technology also offers the possibility of WiFi or "smart grid" connectivity to measure and control temperature, duration and power levels.

"Our mission aligns very well with what the AllSeen Alliance is trying to accomplish -- changing consumer experience through innovative technology," said Jerry Callahan, CEO ISI Technologies. "Having a common platform for the Internet of Everything promises a level of connectivity that was impossible before, and we're excited to contribute to this change." LightFreq is a hybrid smart bulb using Bluetooth and WiFi to allow users to play HD audio through the whole house. Built-in features allow audio and lighting to automatically follow people from room to room. Mood lighting can be based on the genre of music, whether hip hop, rock or techno.

"The AllSeen Alliance is the most effective conduit to efficiently connect our future world," said Devon Allii, Founder, LightFreq.

M2Communication focuses on Internet of Things telecommunication protocol, systems and chipsets. Inspired by proven cellular technologies, the company has specifically developed an ultra-low power and high-speed data transmission infrastructure for large object-linked networks. M2Communication applies its technology to logistics management, retail and factory automation, as well as sensor networks.

"The Internet of Things has significant potential to be a revolutionary market force for a variety of industries, including retail. This is a sector our company is actively engaged in, with our innovative Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) solution," said Derrick Wei, CEO, M2Communication. "The AllSeen Alliance is an important effort to assure that device interoperability can be achieved and to move this industry forward." Ping Identity provides next-generation identity security solutions. With more than 1,200 enterprise customers worldwide, including half of the Fortune 100, Ping Identity delivers professional-grade identity security solutions that meet the needs of organizations managing workforce, customer, and partner identities. Identity at Internet scale is a concept that will be required as the industry builds services that encompass billions of connected devices and identities.

"The AllSeen Alliance is providing a critical framework for collaboration and development of industry standards for the Internet of Things," said Patrick Harding, CTO, Ping Identity. "We have a history of supporting the development of standards that are a foundation for growing an industry, and in IoT we know that identity security is going to be a significant enabler of a broad-based approach to IoT interoperability and overall security integrity." Tellient offers an analytics platform built specifically for the Internet of Things, allowing business intelligence to be gleaned from interactions among IoT devices. Tellient's scalable, extensible and cost-effective platform works with the thinnest of clients and the most resource-constrained devices.

"The incoming deluge of data can absolutely revolutionize the way that manufacturers think about their products and provide unprecedented insight into their end customers, but only if it is collected, organized and demystified," said Shawn Conahan, CEO, Tellient.

Announced earlier in September, FirstBuild -- a partnership between GE Appliances and Local Motors -- joined the AllSeen Alliance as a Community Member.

The AllSeen Alliance also welcomes new sponsored members Brno University of Technology, Fundació Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme and the Telecommunications Industry Association.
