United States : IBM, AT&T team up to provide private connections to SOFTLAYER data centers [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) IBM has joined hands with AT&T Corp. to offer private connections to its Softlayer data centers, in a bid to address one of customers' most persistent concerns about using public cloud infrastructure.

The partnership will provide businesses with the choice of connecting their environments to IBM's public cloud through AT&T's NetBond service, thereby matching IaaS kingpin Amazon.com Inc. and other vendors like Microsoft Corp., which also provide direct connectivity.

Dedicated lines have become a necessity among corporate users of cloud services for their dependability and inherent security.

NetBond has the added benefit of being consolidated with AT&T's virtual private network software, allowing admins to treat a public cloud deployment as if it were just another internal destination, taking much of the hassle out of the hybrid cloud model.
