NVIDIA unpacks its Maxwell-powered GTX 970 & GTX 980 GPU's [T-break Tech (Middle East)]

(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Planning to upgrade your rig? NVIDIA has just announced its latest, fastest and super efficient single GPU graphics cards- the GTX 980 and GTX 970. These new cards are the first high-end cards based on second generation Maxwell architecture.

Coming to the beefy specs, the GTX 970 holds 1664 CUDA cores clocked at 1050 MHz speed, boost up to 1178 MHz and can crank up 4 Tflops of single precision computing power. The beefier GTX 980 has 2048 CUDA cores running at 1126 MHz speed, boost up to 1216 MHz and throttles out 5 Tflops of single precision computing. Both have a 256-bit memory interface with 4GB GDDR5 RAM, running at 7 Gbps memory speed.

With these NVIDIA cards, the new Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) can render 4K graphics in a FullHD display. The 4K content is first fed into the GPU frame buffer and then down sample the content to 1080p with a Gaussian filter. The other feature is the Multi-Frame Sample Anti-Alaising (MFAA) that promises high image quality and 30% increase in performance than MSAA.

Other features include 3 dual-link DVI connectors, one Display Port 1.2 and finally one HDMI 2.0. Moreover, the power consumption for the GTX 970 is rated for 145W, and the GTX 980 is rated for 165W which is certainly impressive. Additionally, NVIDIA had added support for Oculus Rift VR with less latency and compatible with dual-GPU SLI techniques.

NVIDIA states that the new cards will be out soon for sale along with EVGA, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI for a starting price of $329 (1208 AED) for the GTX 970 and $549 (2016 AED) for the GTX 980. Time to find out how these cards fairs against AMD's best in real world tests.
