Leadership Conference/Awards Now October 14


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The annual LEADERSHIP Conference and Awards which was postponed as a result of safety concerns in Abuja and coincidence with the World Economic Forum, will now take place at the ThisDay Dome, Abuja, on October 14, 2014, from 9. 00am.



All former heads of state have been invited to the event at which statesman and former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, would receive the award of LEADERSHIP Person of the Year.

Gowon, whose 80th birthday comes up a few days after the ceremony, confirmed last night that he would personally attend the LEADERSHIP Awards.


The Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who emerged Governor of the Year would also be in attendance.

Other Nigerians and corporate bodies that distinguished themselves in 2013 will also be decorated.

The award presentation would be preceded by a lecture entitled, "Rebuilding A Nation: Lessons From Other Lands", by Lagos State governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. The event would be chaired by Vanguard publisher, Mr. Sam Amuka.

Companies and brands which made a huge difference in 2013 will also be honoured.

Other recipients include the G-7 Governors - Governor Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Governor Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Governor Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Governor Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Alh. Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) - as Politicians of the Year. It would be recalled that the G7 governors, as they were then called, broke away from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in what was the single most defining political act last year.

The vice chairman of Ocean Marine Security, Mr. Olatunde Ayeni, is the Business Person of the Year. The other awardees include, Simdul Shagaya (CEO Of the Year); the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina (Public Officer of the Year); the Group Managing Director, UBA, Mr. Philip Oduoza (Banker of the Year); The former minister of the FCT, Malam Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai, is the Author of the Year; and Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, is the Sports Person of the Year. Others include Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (Agency of the Year), Nagari Farm Yoghurt (Product of the Year), Chi Limited (Company of the Year), LAPO Micro Finance Bank Ltd (Micro Finance Bank of the Year), Diamond Bank (Bank of the Year), Swift Network Ltd (Telecom Company of the Year), Jumia (ICT Of the Year), SAMSUNG (Brand of the Year), Ice Prince (Artist of the Year) and the Golden Eaglets (Young Persons of the Year).
