Cisco unveils new NGFW in the Middle East [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)](ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Cisco today introduced its latest next-generation firewall (NGFW) in the Middle East, claiming the new appliance to be an answer to the problems associated with detecting zero-day attacks. The device, the Cisco ASA 5500 Series with FirePower Services, is an integration between Cisco's already popular firewall with application control, and next-generation intrusion prevention systems and advance malware protection from Sourcefire. Cisco said that, traditionally, NGFWs focus on policy and application control, which help to address known threats. However, this does not help when it comes to detecting zero-day attacks. With its new ASA NGFW, Cisco claimed that it could address this problem. The ASA provides contextual awareness and a high level of controllability so that organisations can automatically assess threats, correlate intelligence, and optimise defences for networks, Cisco said. The vendor claimed to be surpassing legacy NGFW offerings by providing integrated threat defence across the entire attack continuum. "In today's climate of industrialised hacking and sophisticated cyber-crime gangs, we've entered an era in which legacy NGFW solutions are not enough to thwart attackers," said Maher Jadallah, MEA sales manager for Cisco Security. "Now more than ever, organisations in the Middle East need to be able to implement dynamic controls to manage the pace of change of their environments and address security incidents. Cisco ASA with FirePower Services is a major step forward for the NGFW market, empowering customers to deepen their protection from the data centre, to the network, to the endpoint with the agility to identify, understand, and stop advanced threats in real-time and retrospectively."
