HostDime.com Selects Arbor Networks' Peakflow® SP Platform for Infrastructure Protection, Traffic Visibility and DDoS Managed Services

BURLINGTON, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Arbor Networks, Inc., a leading provider of DDoS and advanced threat protection solutions for enterprise and service provider networks, today announced that HostDime, a global data center provider, has selected the Arbor Peakflow® SP platform in order to protect its infrastructure and to offer its customers distributed denial of service (DDoS) managed services.

HostDime offers managed cloud hosting services with fully supported amenities and Web tools that have empowered global users to do more on the cloud with affordable cost in mind. HostDime is globally recognized as an established, reliable and trustworthy data center company in the industry. HostDime operates data centers in Orlando, Florida as well as in India, Mexico and Brazil, with facilities in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. They currently host more than 5 million domains.

"HostDime wanted the best DDoS product offering for our customer base in order to ensure the quality of its product portfolio was retained. We found that Arbor Networks (News - Alert) was able to fulfill that desire with its very capable Peakflow Threat Management and PeakFlow SP platforms," said Ray Fernandez, VP of Network Security at HostDime.

"DDoS can quickly become an acute problem for an unprepared Hosting provider. HostDime has been proactive, and put in place a DDoS detection and mitigation solution that is deployed in the world's largest and most complex networks. Their customers can be confident that their data will be available and that they will be able to focus on running their business," said Arbor Networks President Matthew Moynahan.

HostDime DDoS Protection
DDoS attacks are launched with the intent of negatively impacting the availability of the targeted applications, data or services. While DDoS attacks launched against classic siloed systems often cause collateral damage due to their impact on shared resources - such as network infrastructure, DNS, etc., - the inherent and explicit multi-tenancy of cloud hosting environments means that an attack against one customer is an attack against all end customers making use of the same shared infrastructure.

HostDime offers customers two DDoS protection options, on-demand or via a monthly subscription. HostDime's DDoS protection is inline, within the data center, so customers notice little-to-no latency even when mitigation is actively taking place. Customer traffic, comes into their network and the illegitimate (aka attack traffic), is filtered out, leaving only legitimat traffic flowing to and from the customers server. Peakflow SP learns "normal" traffic patterns and can more aptly detect anomaly traffic and begin filtering, if needed. Apart from the learned behavior of the hardware itself, HostDime Network Engineers can also create custom rule sets to filter any known global threats. Through their Peakflow SP deployment, HostDime is able to understand:

  • Where traffic on the DimeNOC network is coming from and where it is going to
  • What routes that traffic is taking
  • What interfaces and devices are most heavily used on the DimeNOC network
  • Who the Top Talkers on the DimeNOC network are
  • What the short term and long term traffic trends are
  • What the current and future traffic forecast is

Arbor Networks® Peakflow SP® Portfolio
Many of the world's leading cloud, hosting and service providers rely on Arbor's Peakflow® SP DDoS protection platform to proactively fend off malicious threats such as botnets and volumetric and application-layer DDoS attacks, while strengthening the availability and quality of their services.

The Peakflow SP platform includes two main components, Peakflow SP and the Peakflow Threat Management System. Peakflow SP combines network-wide anomaly detection and traffic engineering with the Peakflow Threat Management System's carrier-class threat management, which automatically detects and surgically removes only attack traffic, while maintaining other business traffic. With the ability to mitigate only the attack traffic, customer-facing services remain available while providers actively mitigate attacks. The Peakflow SP platform also powers many of the world's leading cloud-based DDoS managed security services.
