Genius secures iPhone 6 camera production

(Taiwan News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Apple will release two versions of the iPhone 6, a 4.7 inch regular and 5.5 inch Plus model. Genius Electronic Optical (3406) has secured production of the front camera on both smartphones and the rear camera on the Plus version. Production of this camera is shared with Largan (3008).

Genius has obtained orders for three out of the four front and rear cameras on Apple's two new mobile phones. The eight million pixel rear camera will be supplied primarily to the stabilized large size iPhone 6 Plus. Since demand for the large size iPhone 6 Plus is astonishing, with day one pre-orders double that of the iPhone 5, institutional investors expect the iPhone 6 will inject new life into Genius and give the company a better chance to rally.

According to the latest technology stock report released by CIMB Securities, CIMB believes that the popularity of the iPhone 6 Plus' large screen will be higher than the regular iPhone 6 model. Even though this type of forecast is likely premature, from an investment perspective, CIMB suggests investors focus on Apple concept stocks in closer proximity to the iPhone 6's supply chain. Conversely, Apple concept stocks further out from the iPhone 6's supply chain would carry more risk.

Feedback from numerous global pre-order locations show, many consumers believe that, with similar pricing, buying the iPhone 6 Plus is more cost effective. The iPhone 6 Plus has a larger screen, longer battery life, and optical image stabilization (OIS) equipped cameras.

CIMB has adjusted its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus shipment ratio estimate from 78:22 to 50:50 and its iPhone 6 Plus shipping estimate for the second half of the year from 17.8 million units to 47.5 million units.
