Combating the scourge of metal theft, authorizing courts to order law enforcement to submit DNA evidence to national databases to determine whether the evidence matches a known individual or a profile from an unsolved crime and lead hazard control are among the bills also on tap. The committees are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and will be streamed live at: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/media/live_audio.asp. Highlights include: - A-2802 (Riley/Cryan/Giblin/Mukherji/Lagana/Moriarty) - Directs Secretary of Higher Education to establish a communication and incentive plan to encourage re-enrollment in college; requires Statewide reverse transfer agreement, A-2807 (Cryan/Riley/Eustace/Quijano/Lagana/Moriarty) - Prohibits four-year public and independent institutions of higher education from increasing resident undergraduate tuition and fees for nine continuous semesters following student's initial enrollment, A-2812 (Riley/Cryan/Diegnan/Giblin/Benson/Garcia) - Requires development of longitudinal data system that maintains individuals' data from preschool through entry into workforce, and A-2817 (Riley/Singleton/Jasey/Cryan/Fuentes) - Requires all school districts and public institutions of higher education to offer dual enrollment programs to provide college-level instruction to high school students and requires these students be charged a reduced tuition rate. 10:30 a.m. Higher Education. - A-2074 (Fuentes/Gusciora) - Revises law concerning the purchase of scrap metal. 1 p.m. Regulated Professions. - A-3201 (Pinkin/Sumter/Mukherji) - Permits pharmacists to offer customers purchasing prescription drugs discounts and rebates. 1 p.m. Regulated Professions. - A3461 (Conaway/Benson/Pinkin) - Requires 9-1-1 service facilities to be equipped with system for processing requests for emergency services sent via text message, and A3544 (Chivukula) - Requires 9-1-1 service facilities to be equipped with system for processing requests for emergency services sent via text message. 10 a.m. Telecommunications and Utilities. - The committee will also will take testimony concerning the 911 emergency telephone systems, the utilization of collected funds for the 911 system account and the implementation of advanced communication technologies to enhance the 911 system. - A3157 (Giblin/Diegnan) - Prohibits sale of certain mobile telecommunications devices unless device includes technology to remotely render device inoperable. 10 a.m. Consumer Affairs. - A986 (Andrzejczak/Benson) - Establishes telemarketing fraud investigation unit. 10 a.m. Consumer Affairs. - A1239 (Prieto/Lagana) - Prohibits retail sales establishment from storing certain magnetic-stripe data; The committee will also hear from invited speakers regarding two reports that have not been filed: the Department of Community Affairs regarding incidences of violence in Section 8 Project Housing and the Department of Health regarding the progress made in reducing MRSA infections in hospitals.
