Telenor plots 3G network expansion [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]


(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Norwegian-backed cellco Telenor has announced that it will extend its 3G footprint to 32 cities by the end of the month, Pro Pakistani writes, citing the cellco's chief marketing officer, Irfan Wahab Khan. Services are currently available in 19 cities, and the next stage of the operator's rollout will add a further 13 to the total, namely: Attock, Bahawalpur, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Jhelum, Kohat, Mardan, Muzaffargarh, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Wah and Taxila. The official added that 3G uptake so far has been strong, and expects the rapid development of the space to help spur growth in the device and applications eco-systems in Pakistan. Mr Khan went on: 'With Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Line and online classified[s] etc. spurring the growth, the average data volume usage of 3G customers is more than double the average data volume of 2G users.'
