Arrow Inspires Channel Partners at Big Data Symposium

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --(Business Wire)--

Arrow Electronics (News - Alert), Inc.'s (NYSE:ARW) Big Data Symposium, held at the Ritz-Carlton Resort at Amelia Island, Fla., last week, brought together over 60 Arrow partners and 12 suppliers to inspire leadership through growth and transformation in the Big Data economy.

"The Big Data Symposium is just one way Arrow is making investments in the channel to help partners deliver solutions that create business value," said Mark Taylor, vice president of enterprise servers, systems, and software at Arrow's North America Enterprise Computing Solutions business. "We believe our collective capabilities and expertise in Big Data and analytics solutions will profoundly help companies in their quest for meaningful IT implementations."

In the opening keynote, Dan Vesset, program vice president of business analytics and Big Data research at IDC (News - Alert), presented the latest research into market opportunities, end-user requirements and challenges, and the competitive landscape in the Big Data and analytics market. Dan outlined recommendations on how to capitalize on the $115 billion market opportunity.

"The partners attending Arrow's Big Data Symposium clearly benefited from a better understanding of the potential in Big Data, as well as how to leverage these solutions in their business analytics portfolios," said Vesset. "What Arrow did at the symposium is exciting in that you have the best minds in Big Data sharing ideas from both the key vendors as well as over 60 solution providers. This helps cemnt strategies, market positioning and future direction on both sides of the fence, as we collectively move toward data-driven decision-making at all levels of an organization."

In addition to listening to industry experts, Arrow partners attended multiple supplier break-out sessions and met with supplier thought leaders, including Cloudera, EMC (News - Alert), IBM, iDashboards, Information Builders, Intel, HP, Oracle, SAP and SAS.

"I was familiar with SAS and Hadoop for 'cold' data," said Sastry Taruvai, CEO, co-founder and president of Bluenog. "However, I learned about a SAS solution for 'hot' data for Oracle, IBM and SAP (News - Alert) customers at the Big Data Symposium. It was a real treat to have all these suppliers together, especially to answer specific questions about synergies."

The symposium is timely given the rapidly advancing Big Data and analytics marketplace. "We had the opportunity to meet with established IT vendors, emerging vendors, other partners and experts from Arrow," said Evan Herbst, senior vice president with Gemini Systems, LLC. "We were able to discuss and work through evolving solutions that meet the needs of both our lines-of-business customers and traditional IT organizations."

Arrow drew parallels in developing and leveraging advanced business intelligence and Big Data solutions to their own company. As a Big Data customer, Arrow had to determine how to drive value and insight into its own business. Vin Melvin, Arrow's senior vice president and chief information officer, shared successes, insights and lessons learned as Arrow leverages expanded intelligence in support of its business operations efficiency and partner support and customer value.

"Drawing the distinction between analytics and business intelligence was of great interest to solution providers as they establish and grow their Big Data analytics business," said Russ Davis, director of SAS (News - Alert) global market and channel development. "One of the many benefits of bringing solution providers and suppliers together is to hear specific market dynamics, and to demonstrate the synergies among the suppliers that help address customer needs. The collective and collaborative conversations wouldn't have been possible without Arrow."
