Shipping store on target for November opening [Daily Gazette, Sterling, Ill.]

(Daily Gazette (Sterling, IL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 13--ROCK FALLS -- Milledgeville native Jamison Wiersema has spent the past 7 months traveling the country for his marketing job with a Chicago-based company.

When Wiersema, 25, returns from his latest trip Nov. 1, he won't be resting. Wiersema will hit the homestretch in opening a business in a riverfront area where excitement is building for tangible development plans.

The Wiersema name is a familiar one in the local business community. Jamison's parents, Mark and Lisa, have owned and operated hauling company Wiersema Waste Service, based in Rock Falls, for 14 years. Jamison inherited his parents' entrepreneurial spirit, but searched for his own niche market.

"I saw the need for a shipping and office supplies business in the area -- especially a place that offers FedEx services," he said. "We can pack it for you or sell the materials so you can pack it yourself." His tentative plan calls for a soft opening at Sauk Valley Pack 'N Ship, 109 First Ave., in mid-November, and a grand opening celebration a couple of weeks later.

"This is the perfect location for this business," Wiersema said. "I'm a big believer in the riverfront development, and I'm excited to be a part of it." Jamison's mother said she looks forward to having him in the Rock Falls business community that is so important to the family.

"This is a very exciting endeavor for him and for us," Lisa said. "I think he will do well, because he's had great business sense since he was small, and he's never met a stranger." Lisa also believes that her son is in the right place at the right time.

"Rock Falls is on the cutting edge of some big things," she said, "and I think this business can be lucrative at that location." The store is a shipping center for FedEx, the United States Postal Service, international service DHL Express, and freight and cargo.

Customers who would rather ship it themselves can find everything they need -- boxes, packing materials, mailers, envelopes, and greeting cards. Other services include mailbox rental, copy and print, scanning, fax, notary public, custom box making and crating, and document shredding.

Wiersema will open the store with himself and one other person, but said it's likely he will need part-time help during the holidays.

Customers will be able to track their packages on his website, which also has links to Facebook and Google pages.
