Verizon Wireless tower constructed in Canton Twp. [The Daily Review, Towanda, Pa. :: ](Daily Review (Towanda, PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 12--CANTON TWP. -- There's good news for Verizon Wireless customers in the Canton area. The new Verizon tower is up in Canton Township, and the date is drawing near for its activation, though an exact time isn't known. "We're looking at getting the site online late in the third quarter or early fourth quarter," said John O'Malley, Public Relations Manager -- Upstate New York Region for Verizon Wireless, when asked for comment. "We don't have a specific target date in mind, but that's our timeframe," he commented. He said Verizon still has "some work to do before we can light it up." Construction of the wireless telecommunications facility to improve Verizon Wireless service in and around the Canton area began in October 2013, according to a representative of Advanced Network Services, who was at the site Thursday. The company did the construction work for the project. The project involved building a wireless telecommunications facility, consisting of a tower, small equipment shelter and related equipment, on property leased from Julius M. and Barbara A. Canale off North Minnequa Avenue in Canton Township, according to earlier information from the Bradford County Planning Commission. The site is just outside Canton Borough. A letter to the planning commission from Nixon Peabody LLP, the legal firm writing on behalf of Verizon Wireless, noted that Verizon Wireless currently has "inadequate service in and around the Canton area," and the facility is meant to remedy the situation. The letter noted that the site consists of a 100-foot by 100-foot parcel of land leased by Verizon Wireless from the Canales, and the facility was to be made up of a 195-foot self-supported tower, wireless communications antennas, and an equipment shelter, together with other site improvements.
