After evaluating various dCSS solutions in the market, Unitron chose the Entropic EN5520 solution as it offered the lowest power dissipation at less than two watts, which equates to approximately one-half the power of competitive solutions. Additionally the EN5520 IC offers a cost-optimized package with an advanced feature set, which includes 32 User Bands and dual outputs for end product flexibility on a single integrated circuit (IC) design. This enables one IC for use across multiple applications, reducing Unitron's Multi-switch development time and allowing products to enter the market faster. Each output will provide up to 32 user bands to support more tuner/demodulators off a single-cable architecture. These designs support direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operator's migration to gateway/client architectures and deliver more High Definition (HD) entertainment to the home.
