VeloComputer Starts Production of 9-Axis Smart Motion Sensor

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) September 11, 2014 SoundOfMotion Technologies Inc., the creator of VeloComputer, demonstrates new VeloComputer 9-axis Smart Sensor platform for cycling and other active sports at the Interbike show in Las Vegas and launches a campaign on crowd funding site Kickstarter.com. The new sensor supports ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart 4.0 (low energy) wireless technology. ANT+ is used primarily by Garmin sport watches and Bluetooth Smart by smartphones, like Android and iPhone.

When mounted on a wheel hub, the VeloComputer 9-axis Smart Sensor can detect forward and reverse wheel motion with 1-inch precision. It is 100 times more accurate than any traditional cycling speed sensor. This precision reduces data latency and allows cyclists to accurately calculate spot speed and acceleration. The sensor attaches to a wheel hub with a simple snap-over mount without any tools. It is powered by a standard coin cell battery.

"Cyclists usually have to adjust a magnet on a spoke after mounting or changing wheels," said founder Vlad Savchenko. "This is a hassle. Traditional speed sensors use a magnet to count wheel revolutions. This gives only 7 feet precision and substantially increases latency in data transmission." The same VeloComputer 9-axis Smart Sensor can be mounted on a seat post of a bicycle to measure grade of a slope and cadence. Using gyro and accelerometer, the sensor instantly detects change of a road slope, measured in percentage - %. The cadence is extracted from a lateral motion of the seat post, when the cyclist is pedaling, and measured in rotations per minute - RPM. The sensor attaches to a seat post of a bicycle with a simple snap-over mount without any tools.

The sensor supports standard ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart speed and cadence profiles for full wheel revolution, the 360-degree precision. It also offers 1-inch precision in distance, spot speed, acceleration and grade of incline, using custom Bluetooth Smart profile with VeloComputer application for Android and iPhone.

SoundOfMotion offers a software developer kit for developers to create new use cases for VeloComputer 9-axis Smart Sensor platform. Using SDK developers can measure various motion with the sensor. "Running, swinging, swimming or jumping - you are limited only by your imagination," said Vlad Savchenko.

The new VeloComputer 9-axis Smart Sensor can be pre-ordered at Kickstarter.com. SoundOfMotion offers limited number of sensors for as low as $29 plus shipping. The retail price of the sensor is $59. The cost of SDK is $99.
