Campus Hosts New England Regional Developers Summit


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) AMHERST, Mass., Sept. 9 -- The University of Massachusetts-Amherst issued the following news release: The 2014 New England Regional Developers (NERD) Summit will take place between Friday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 14 on the lower level of the Campus Center.



The keynote speakers will be: * Ashe Dryden, programmer, writer and advocate for diversity in technology, focusing on the intersections between technology, social justice, and feminism. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Scientific American, Wired and NPR.

* Susan Buck, programmer, designer, educator and founder of the Women's Coding Collective, a group that aims to narrow the gender gap in technology.


* Damien McKenna, lead Drupal architect at Mediacurrent and contributor to the Drupal project.

The conference themes are web design and development tools and concepts, diversity and local tech communities.

Web designers and developers from New England are gathering to learn more on a wide range of topics, including content management systems design concepts, coding languages, development tools, building communities of practice for web technologies, and diversity in technology communities, especially in the Pioneer Valley.

The program includes Beginner Bootcamp and Career Fair on Friday, regular sessions on Saturday, and code sprinting/hacking on Sunday.

This event is free and open to all.
