Google Russia Probes Reported Leak Of Millions Of Passwords [Eurasia Review](Eurasia Review Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (RFE/RL) — The Russian branch of global Internet giant Google is investigating the reported leak of some 5 million passwords of Gmail account users. Google Russian service officials said on September 10 that their experts are working on the issue and recommended clients use more complicated passwords and a two-step identification mode as well as connecting their accounts to cell phone numbers. The leak was reported by the CNews website a day after the leak of passwords for accounts with Internet company Mail.ru passwords and two days after a similar problem at another Russian Internet giant, Yandex. The CNews report put the total number of leaked e-mail accounts of the three operators at 10 million. Russian social network Vkontakte spokesman Georgy Pobushkin said its administrators would block users of Gmail.
