(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Lawyers' Committee Elects Squire Patton Boggs New York Co-Managing Partner John Nonna as Co-Chair of Lawyers' Committee's Board of Directors and Trustees WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 -- The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law issued the following news release: The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law (Lawyers' Committee) is pleased to announce that Squire Patton Boggs New York Office Co-Managing Partner John Nonna has been elected to serve as co-chair of the Lawyers' Committee's board of directors and trustees, effective September 1, 2014. Nonna, along with Donald J. Rosenberg, executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary with Qualcomm, Inc., will lead an influential board of over 200 members.

"Mr. Nonna brings a wealth of experience to our board," said Lawyers' Committee President and Executive Director Barbara Arnwine. "His commitment to equality and justice paired with his leadership skills and invaluable perspectives will be instrumental in our future work and growth. Since joining the Lawyers' Committee's board in 2007 he has been actively involved and dedicated to the advancement of our critical mission." Nonna's tenure on the board includes serving as regional vice-chair for the Mid-Atlantic Region, a member of the Voting Rights Committee and as a member of the Capital Campaign Committee. A champion of civil rights and racial justice, he has litigated a number of significant cases on behalf of the Lawyers' Committee, including NAACP v. Carnahan (W.D. Mo. 2006) - a federal constitutional challenge to Missouri voter ID law; ACORN v. Scott (W.D. Mo. 2008) - a case involving Missouri's failure to offer voter registration at public assistance agencies where the settlement of the case has resulted in several hundred thousand low-income citizens registering to vote; and, most notably, Shelby County v. Holder (US 2013) - in defense of the constitutionality of Sections 4 and 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

As a litigator, Nonna is known for his innovative approach to complex commercial disputes particularly in the areas of insurance and reinsurance. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; sits on the board of directors of the AIDA Reinsurance and Insurance Arbitration Society and the board of trustees of Westchester Community College. He is an active member of numerous bar associations. He served as mayor of Pleasantville, New York and as a Westchester County legislator where he chaired the Legislation Committee.

"The Lawyers' Committee is an incredible organization. I am honored to serve alongside Don Rosenberg as co-chair of the Lawyers' Committee in fulfilling President John F. Kennedy's 1963 request to marshal the private bar's leadership and pro bono resources in combatting racial discrimination and the resulting inequality of opportunity - work that continues to be vital today," said Nonna.

A graduate of Princeton University and New York University School of Law, his accolades include: Best Lawyers' 2014 New York City Insurance Law "Lawyer of the Year"; "Elite Lawyer," U.S. Market: Reinsurance, Intelligent Insurer (2010, 2012, 2013); Super Lawyers, "Super Lawyer," New York, Business Litigation (2006-2013); and Super Lawyers Business Edition "Super Lawyer," New York, Business Litigation (2013).
