TCS nets it big in Sastra and Thiagarajar [Trichy] [Times of India]


(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) THANJAVUR/MADURAI: About 1,746 students from various streams have made the cut at the campus recruitment drives that were held at the Sastra University in Thanjavur on Sunday and at the Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai last week by IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). At a function held in Thanjavur, the best project award was awarded along with TCS campus recruitment process at Sastra that concluded on Sunday. While TCS alone accounted for 1,212 students from the university the overall recruitment figure for 2015 batch was more than 1,450. Recruiters like Paypal, Amazon, Ascendant, Avnet, Microsoft, MuSigma, Freshdesk, Zoho, LatentView, Lister, TVS Motor, had already held their respective campus recruitment drives before TCS began its exercise. While the average pay package is close to Rs 6 lakh per annum, Paypal is paying the maximum with the highest going up to Rs 17.25 lakh per annum. "On a year-over-year (YOY) basis this is a clear indication of economic recovery and is a reward for Sastra's meritorious admission, hard work by students and committed training by faculty," said V Badrinath, director of placements. The ?Best Student Project Award 2014', instituted by TCS was given to three engineering graduates of Sastra University this year. The award was presented by Ram Kumar Chandrasekar, regional head, human resource development, TCS, at a function held at the university on Sunday. The award carrying a gold medal each and a sum of Rs 20,000 was given to the winning team consisting of B V S Dheeraj Reddy, B Sai Raghava and K Anvesh Reddy for their project titled ?Privacy preserving data mining using incentive compatible mechanism and ensemble methodology.' A research paper was also published in IEEE transactions on knowledge and data engineering. P Swaminathan, dean, school of computing, Sastra University stressed the need to carry out innovative projects during the final semester of undergraduate programme. In Madurai, the IT major recruited about 534 students from the Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) during the campus recruitment drive that was held from August 31 to September 2. V Abhaikumar, principal of the college said that students were recruited to work in areas such as IT and Engineering Services and Telecom. Altogether, 627 undergraduate (UG) and 237 postgraduate (PG) students from various branches of engineering and technology attended the selection process, he added. G K Raajesh, placement officer, TCE, said that 442 UG and 92 PG students were selected from all branches. The number of UG students selected was 62 from civil, 60 from mechanical, 71 from electrical and electronics, 91 from electronics and communication, 72 from computer science and 86 from information technology streams. The PG students were selected from engineering streams like structural, production, power systems, communication systems, wireless technologies, industrial, environmental engineering, infrastructure and management, control and instrumentation and computer applications. A 110-member team from TCS conducted the recruitment during this period, sources added.
