Packet Design to Demonstrate How Route Analytics Can Mitigate SDN Risks at SDN & NFV 2014 Conference

AUSTIN, Texas --(Business Wire)--

Packet Design (News - Alert) CTO Cengiz Alaettinoglu will address the software defined networking (SDN) management challenges facing network operators at the third annual SDN & NFV 2014 conference, to be held Sept. 15-17 in Nice, France. In discussing how route and traffic analytics can provide the visibility needed to effectively manage SDN, he will describe the need for a Network Access Broker to verify if the wide area network (WAN) can handle dynamic application demands without impacting other applications adversely.

Session Title: "Operating a Software Defined Network and How Route Analytics Can Mitigate the Risks"

Session Description:

North-bound SDN APIs allow the creation of network-aware applications. Cloud and data center applications have successfully taken advantage of these APIs to provide seamless virtual machine mobility and elasticity. Recently, there have been announcements of WAN orchestration and service provisioning applications. Unfortunately, these applications are mostly unaware of whether r not the underlying network can provide the performance they need, and the programmatic changes they make in the underlying network are largely invisible to the network operator. As a result, network operators face two new management challenges:

1. How to ensure automated network changes are optimal and will not impact other services
2. How to diagnose the problem root cause when these applications perform poorly or impact the performance of other applications

To address these challenges, operators need deep, real-time knowledge of the underlying network topology, paths, and traffic demands. This presentation will show how current route analytics technology provides this knowledge and how it is being enhanced to address other unique challenges introduced by software defined networking.

Date and Time: Wednesday, Sept. 17, 10:25 a.m. CEST

Packet Design is a silver sponsor of the conference and will be demonstrating the company's Network Access Broker technology in booth 25. For more information, visit http://sdnconference.com.

About Packet Design

Founded in 2003, Packet Design has pioneered route analytics to address today's network management challenges. The Route Explorer System monitors network-wide routing and traffic, providing operational alerts to failures and anomalies. Analyses and DVR-like replay capabilities speed troubleshooting, and routing and traffic modeling helps network planners predict the impact of changes and new workloads. Packet Design's unique real-time routing intelligence will be a critical enabler for the programmable and dynamic software defined networks of the future. The world's largest telecommunications companies, mobile operators, MSOs, service providers, enterprises and government agencies use the Route Explorer System to improve network availability and performance while maximizing the return on assets.
