Cyan Extends Packet-Optical Leadership & Drives Network Transformation Vision Forward with Major Enhancements

PETALUMA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Cyan (NYSE: CYNI), a leading provider of SDN, NFV, and packet-optical solutions for network operators, today announced a series of new features to its Cyan Z-Series Packet-Optical Transport (P-OTP) and Blue Planet SDN platforms. In addition to providing a vision and support for MPLS-TP, the latest enhancements enrich Cyan's packet-optical hardware and software feature-set, enabling network operators to more quickly and cost-effectively transform their next-generation networks.

Cloud computing applications, big data, and mobility are putting increased pressure on today's network infrastructure. To stay competitive, network operators must be able to address dynamic bandwidth demands and quickly provision new value-added, revenue-generating services in a matter of minutes. Cyan's latest enhancements allow service providers to achieve greater scale, flexibility and control - whether deploying 100G in the metro or delivering MEF (News - Alert) compliant Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) services, and more. Specifically, today's product upgrades include:

1. Carrier Ethernet Enhancements Reinforce Market Leadership
The Cyan Z-Series P-OTP packet switching (PSW) and transport modules now support additional Carrier Ethernet 2.0+ capabilities. Upgraded features include hitless software upgrades, traffic policing and shaping, and support for a new 100G DWDM coherent CFP. Combined with Cyan's Blue Planet software, the new release extends Cyan's ability to seamlessly provision high-capacity 10GbE and 100GbE services in multi-vendor Carrier Ethernet networks.

2. Additions Broaden Z-Series Optical Foundation
Two new additions to the Z-Series platform enable network operators to shift toward more scalable and flexible SDN-enabled packet-optical networks:

  • -degree, 96 channel ROADM (News - Alert) - Cyan is adding to the existing family of single-slot 2- and 4-degree ROADM modules to support more flexible topologies and high-density 10G, 100G, and future 400G applications. This allows providers to implement economical metro network designs, while increasing uptime and reliability.
  • Integrated amplifier modules - Cyan is introducing a new family of integrated Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifier (EDFA) modules, which provide extended optical reach for metro, regional, and long-haul applications.

3. New APIs Drive Greater Network Programmability
Cyan is adding four new APIs for its SDN-powered packet-optical infrastructure: Optical Services, SNMP Trap Forwarding, Physical and Logical Inventory, and Site Manager API. These new APIs allow network operators to create the next generation of programmable services that will differentiate their offerings and improve service agility, performance, and time-to-revenue.

4. Support for MPLS-TP Connection-Oriented Ethernet
With the recent advancements in the ITU-T MPLS-TP standards, Cyan is announcing the company's support for MPLS-TP as part of its long-term Connection-Oriented Ethernet (COE) vision. Over the coming months, Cyan will roll out new MPLS-TP capabilities for the Z-Series PSW modules that will ensure highly reliable and predictable delivery of Ethernet services between metros and across an MPLS core. When coupled with Cyan's Blue Planet SDN Platform, MPLS-TP capabilities will enable resilient and scalable packet transport along with advanced end-to-end control, multi-vendor management, and service orchestration. Cyan also will ensure interoperability between existing PBB-TE networks and new MPLS-TP deployments.

"Over the years, Cyan has been associated with many industry firsts; we brought to market the first family of purpose-built packet-optical transport platforms and the first SDN and NFV orchestration platform optimized for network operators and the WAN," said Mark Floyd, CEO, Cyan. "With today's enhancements, we have further enriched our offerings and solidified our position as the network transformation leader."
