Advantech Extends 10/40GbE Network Adapter Line Across Multiple Form Factors

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/08/14 -- Intel® Developers Forum - Advantech (TWSE: 2395) today announced a new family of network interface cards in a range of form factors specifically adapted for deployment on Advantech ATCA blades, in high density network appliances and in high performance servers. The Intel® XL710 Ethernet Controller brings enhanced networking performance to virtualized and non-virtualized applications and improves energy efficiency by over 3 times the throughput per watt of previous generation products.

With extensive operating system and virtual machine monitor support, Advantech modules and adapters target a broad range of enterprise, telecom and cloud networking applications where the Intel® XL710 Ethernet Controller brings enhancements to improve network automation, resource provisioning and monitoring, and workload balancing. Applications can now benefit from the extra acceleration built in to the new network controller where intelligent off-load functions free up valuable processing cycles and allow the full computing power of Intel® Xeon® processors to be harnessed.

The Advantech FMM-5004II is the first double-size FMM module available with two Intel® XL710 Ethernet Controllers. When installed on Advantech's latest ATCA blades with dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 processors, including the MIC-5343, it routes four 40GBASE-KR4 fabric interface connections to the backplane for use in dual dual-star configurations offering an aggregate bandwidth of 160 Mbps between the blade and the switching complex. This makes it ideal for use in ATCA systems for high-speed packet processing applications such as network analytics and policy enforcement.

Advantech's NMC-4005 and NMC-4006 are both based on Advantech's Network Mezzanine Card (NMC) standard for deployment in a full range of network appliances that support as many as 8 front-loadable NMCs. The NMC-4005 provides four 10GbE SFP+ ports while the NMC-4006 provides two 40GbE QSFP+ ports. When installed in Advantech's appliances such as the FWA-6512 and FWA-6520 with PCIe Gen3 (8 GT/s), systems may implement as many as thirty-two 10GbE or sixteen 40GbE ports balanced across up to four Intel® Xeon® processors in a compact 2U rack footprint.

Designed for deployment in server-grade platforms such as Advantech's CGS-6010 with dual Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 processors, the PCIE-2301 based on the Intel® XL710 Ethernet Controller is the first PCIe adapter from Advantech to offer dual 40GbE QSFP+ ports. It allows network builders to meet carrier cloud network challenges where network virtualization off-loads for VXLAN enable virtualized workloads to seamlessly communicate or move across server clusters more efficiently.

"The PCIE-2301 is an important extension to our recently launched line of PCIe adapters giving customers access to a full range of NICs with 1GbE, 10GbE and 40GbE interfaces with industrial life cycle and life cycle management," said Peter Marek, senior director, Advantech Networks and Communications Group. "With a consistent support for NIC drivers and optimized frameworks such as Intel® DPDK, equipment makers and solution providers can get maximum benefit out of workload consolidation, network virtualization and software defined infrastructure. And Advantech gives them freedom of choice. No matter which form factor or platform, Advantech can deliver network interfaces that meet density, performance and cost targets based on Intel® networking silicon." All the modules mentioned are available for sampling now and can be evaluated using Advantech's Remote Evaluation Service.

Advantech will be showcasing the new products at the Intel® Developers Forum, September 9-11 in San Francisco, CA, USA.
