DNA's MatkaTV service adds 100,000th subscriber [TeleGeography CommsUpdate]

(TeleGeography CommsUpdate Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Alternative Finnish broadband provider DNA has announced that it has now signed up more than 100,000 subscribers to its 'DNA Welho MatkaTV' IPTV offering. Having launched the service last year, the operator highlighted the introduction of popular pay-TV sports content from both MTV and Viasat as having helped drive uptake.

The DNA Welho MatkaTV service is based on Booxmedia's cloud TV technology, and the Finnish telco has noted it can be used on: Android, iOS and WP8 smart phones (all operators); Android and iOS tablets; and a computer browser via a mobile broadband or a wireless broadband network.

Commenting on the development, Jarno Haikonen, director of DNA's Entertainment Business unit, noted: 'MatkaTV is building up its popularity at an increasing rate. This enhances our view that the way television is viewed is changing at an extremely rapid pace. At home, people are taking advantage of HDTVs with enhanced picture quality and large displays, but they also want to have access to TV programmes outside their homes, viewing them with a mobile device suited for their needs. We want to support and develop this freedom of choice in a versatile manner.' (c) 2014 PriMetrica, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
