As an approved IRS continuing education provider, McHenry County College will offer a workshop series from September through December featuring speakers on topics of interest to accountants, tax preparers and financial planners. Featured topics include the Affordable Care Act - Summary Provisions, Illinois Department of Revenue, and Federal Income Tax Law Updates.
The first presentation features the Affordable Care Act-Summary Provisions from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 in Room A103. The presenters include insurance professional Bryan J. Esarco is an experienced CPA practicing in Illinois and Wisconsin and Bob Eriksen of The Eriksen Insurance Group, Inc., a health insurance Independent Brokerage Agency. Both will broach the subject from different angles. The discussion will be split up into tax related and health insurance information in regards to the implementation of ACA requirements.
Participants will receive updates on the Federal Affordable Care Act, including information on tax credits, cost-sharing subsidies, health coverage excise tax, and penalties. Part of this workshop will be to examine Calculations of Health Insurance Credit for Small Employers, Calculating FTE's, and dependent health benefits for adult children. It will also explore health care revenue raisers, including, but not limited to: Reporting of Health insurance coverage on Form W-2, Threshold to Itemize Medical Expenses, and Additional Hospital Tax for High Wage Workers.
For the insurance section, some examples of actual online Blue Cross pricing/quotes will be shown. The presenter will be explaining premiums and plan designs, government subsidy estimates and answering questions about the upcoming open enrollment period starting November 15 for a January 1, 2015 start date.
As a tax professional, Esarco is a certified fraud examiner with a Master of Science in Taxation. He prepares various types of tax returns and represents clients involved in offers and settlements, along with providing them audit support. Using tax planning, research and consultation he has saved clients large amounts of what would have been tax dollars. Currently, he manages a local accounting firm, AJE Associates, PC and is an adjunct instructor at MCC.
Eriksen, an insurance professional, is a former senior marketing executive at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, where he worked with employer groups of 10 to 1,000 employees. In 1994, Eriksen became an independent producer and started The Eriksen Insurance Group, specializing in health insurance and the effects of the Affordable Care Act on pricing and plan designs.
