AirStrip and Dignity Health Launch Innovative Population Health and Telehealth Initiatives in California

SAN ANTONIO & SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

On the heels of a successful first project launched in the Phoenix, Arizona market, AirStrip® and Dignity Health announced that the next phase of their mobile interoperability plan will center on enabling population health and telehealth initiatives in Dignity Health's Central Coast region of California.

Comprised of more than 60,000 caregivers and staff members who deliver care in 20 states, the San Francisco-based Dignity Health is one of the largest health systems in the nation and the largest hospital operator in California. AirStrip is the leading provider of interoperable mobile healthcare solutions that drive clinical transformation, including AirStrip ONE® - the first enterprise-capable, vendor-, platform- and data-source-agnostic clinical mobility solution.

Working with a number of hospital facilities and ambulatory physician groups, the AirStrip ONE solution will allow Dignity Health to integrate multiple EMRs and inpatient and outpatient data sources into a single application. Combining the data delivered to clinicians with clinical and quality metrics will allow Dignity Health to monitor and improve performance, and to target specific patient pools to impact care decisions.

Beginning in October, Dignity Health and AirStrip also plan to incorporate a telehealth initiative at four facilities in the Sacramento region that enables tele-stroke and tele-ICU consultations from virtually anywhere. The solution is agnostic, leveraging different existing EMR, patient monitoring, imaging and video sources and vendors to support a de-centralized approach that can strengthen physician efficiency.

"Ultimately, AirStrip ONE will help us align our quality incentive programs and more effectively manage risk, as well as make real strides in patient engagement," said Dignity Health VP, CMIO - Population Health Davin Lunduist M.D. "This initiative will build out over time to include tools that allow patients to communicate directly with physicians, including video capabilities that support the development of virtual office visits."

The recently-completed AirStrip/Dignity Health project in the Phoenix area focused on co-developing AirStrip ONE use cases in primary care, with a goal of enabling physicians to extend delivery of specialty care and support areas of expertise across Dignity Health facilities, while maintaining contact with patient data in near-real-time. The successful results included simultaneous integration of rich inpatient and outpatient EMR data from Cerner (News - Alert) and Allscripts systems respectively.

"The Phoenix project illustrated how our clinicians can have increased care coordination flexibility by accessing multiple data sources from a single mobile application regardless of time and location, while ensuring that security and privacy meet our stringent standards," said Deanna Wise, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Dignity Health. "We set the bar high and AirStrip consistently met and exceeded our expectations. This prompted us to expand the initiative and to continue migrating toward true enterprise-wide interoperable mobility."

"As a leading-edge integrated healthcare system, Dignity Health recognizes the importance of providing clinicians with a device and data source agnostic solution that can aggregate data from disparate EMR and monitoring systems into a single, efficient workflow," said AirStrip President Matt Patterson, M.D. "With this initial success under our belt, we look forward to supporting Dignity Health's initiatives in population health management, telehealth and consumer engagement."
