Valeo India R&D Director, Engineering Manager to Discuss Best Practices at Sept. 11 Webinar

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WARRENDALE, Pa., Sept. 2 -- SAE International issued the following news release: "Systematic Deployment of Simulation at an R&D Center: Evolution of Automotive Sub-System Simulation at Valeo," (https://event.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1041170) is the subject of a free-of-charge webcast from SAE International. The webcast will feature the director and engineering manager from the Valeo India R&D Center who will discuss best practices that were developed to systematically deploy and leverage simulation across different product groups.

Engineering simulation is a core component of the Valeo India R&D Center, which develops transmission systems, electrical systems, driver assistance systems, wiper systems and thermal systems.

The 60-minute webcast begins at 9 a.m. (U.S. EST) on Thursday, Sept. 11.

When the center opened nine years ago, simulation was only used for structural analysis of transmission systems. The benefits derived from such simulation were subsequently extended by systematically deploying simulation for fluids analysis, such as for the optimization of torque converters. Step-by-step simulation was expanded for all other product groups, even those with widely divergent engineering needs. The center used numerous best practices to cross-train engineers, improve efficiency, and capitalize on investments in simulation tools to expand the benefits of simulation across the organization. These included using a single, widely applicable simulation software platform, expanding high-performance computing facilities, standardizing on solvers, maintaining lessons-learned cards, developing simulation standards, and deploying standard methods of evaluating competencies. The benefits of using simulation are now being reaped throughout the R&D center. The speakers will present these best practices, illustrated by numerous examples of automotive sub-system simulation.

Webcast attendees will be invited to interact with the speakers during the program's live Q&A segment.

Speakers will include: Sriram G, R&D Director, Valeo India R&D Center: Sriram G heads the Valeo India R&D Center in Chennai and has more than 25 years of experience in the automotive field. Under his leadership, the center has grown significantly, contributing to Valeo's worldwide R&D efforts to create innovative solutions. The India R&D team supports design and simulation activities for transmission clutches, engine and electrical systems, wipers, lighting, climate control, engine cooling, comfort, and driving assistance products to 45 Valeo sites around the world. His focus is not only global support, but also design and development of products for the Indian market. He has experience in product development, program management, marketing, and quality assurance areas. He has successfully launched many products with most of the OEMs in India, going through the complete product development cycle. He actively supports industry-academy collaborative projects. Sriram hold a bachelor's degree in engineering and an MBA in marketing.

* Karthic Sethuraman, Engineering Manager, Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems, Valeo India: Karthic Sethuraman is Engineering Manager, Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems, at Valeo India Private Limited. He has more than 18 years of experience in project management and engineering design, especially in projects involving CAE simulation using finite element analysis. He is recognized as the Valeo expert in simulation by the group working at Valeo India Private Limited supporting global customers worldwide. Previously he was CAE Manager at Larsen and Toubro Limited and Scientist 'C' at the Defence R&D Organization. Karthic holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical and production engineering, a master's degree in industrial production and management, and a master's degree in business administration.

* Sandeep Sovani, Ph.D., Director, Global Automotive Industry, ANSYS Inc.: Dr. Sandeep Sovani is the Director of Global Automotive Industry at ANSYS Inc., responsible for developing the company's business and market strategy for the worldwide automotive market segment. He has been actively involved in various areas of automotive technology and business for two decades. Previously he worked with Tata Motors in India. Under a grant from the Cummins Engine Company, he has conducted research on IC engines at Purdue University and recently served as an Adjunct Professor of Engineering at Lawrence Technological University in Michigan. He has authored more than 40 papers, articles, and reports and has delivered numerous invited lectures at academic and industry conferences. Sandeep holds a B.E. in mechanical engineering from India's University of Pune, an M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University.

The Webcast is sponsored by ANSYS and hosted by SAE International.

Moderator will be Lisa Arrigo, Custom Electronic Products Editor, SAE International.
