Actuate's Shannon Kelly to Discuss Enterprise PDF Accessibility at National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Web Accessibility Training Day in Baltimore on September 9

SAN MATEO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), The BIRT Company™ and the leader in personalized analytics and insights, today announced its participation in Web Accessibility Training Day , an event co-hosted by NFB and Maryland Technology Assistance Program, on September 9, 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland. Shannon Kelly, Global Accessibility Solutions Subject Matter Expert at Actuate (News - Alert), will present a technical session on the importance of enterprise generated PDF accessibility. Actuate will have representatives available after the session to discuss Actuate's Document Accessibility Appliance, the only comprehensive accessibility solution that integrates with an organization's existing document management system to capture high volume print streams and automatically remediate them into properly tagged, accessible documents.

Kelly's session will first outline the difference between desktop and enterprise accessibility; PDFs created at the desktop level are done so by a single individual, whereas PDFs created at the enterprise level are generally personalized customer communications - such as credit card and bank statements, telecommunications billings and tax notices - automatically generated by an application, typically within the IT department. She will then illustrate all the elements at the PDF tag (News - Alert) level that need to be addressed for accessibility and full usability by persons using screen reader software. Kelly will also offer strategies, approaches and solutions for creating universally accessible PDFs for information such as critical financial and health documents.

The Web Accessibility Training Day will have general information sessions in the morning and technical and policy tracks in the afternoon. The event will focus on giving private companies, government entities, educational institutions and other organizations the tools necessary to make heir services and customer communications information universally accessible.
