(Salina Journal (KS) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 30--Company rolls out U-verse, plans open house Thursday AT T is introducing a service upgrade in Salina that, among other features, will replace television cable connections with a wireless receiver, enabling homeowners to move their TVs anywhere in the house.

This is part of the company's rollout of its U-verse service that bundles phone, Internet and TV. When complete, nearly all of Salina will be covered by the new system.

"It's in select areas of the community," said Chris Lester, AT T media relations spokesman. "We're hooking up (neighborhoods) as we go." Salinans can go to att.com to find out if the U-verse system is available in their neighborhood.

AT T also has opened its first free-standing retail store in Salina, at 2629 Market Place. Products have been and will continue to be available at Walmart, Target and Radio Shack, Lester said.

Coverage expanded Along with the new U-verse service, AT T also has greatly expanded its coverage.

"We've built sites, acquired sites, upgraded them and added them to our network," Lester said. "The key thing for us is, as of now, our wireless broadband network voice and data service can reach 99 percent of all the folks in Kansas." Lester said the company will conduct an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the new store, its 33rd stand-alone retail establishment in the state.
