Open PC-based control technology for shipbuilding

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 29 August 2014 Release date- 28082014 - At SMM 2014 in Hamburg Beckhoff will present its universal automation component range, which covers a wide range of applications for the shipbuilding industry.

Thanks to its openness, modularity and scalability, PC-based control technology can be used for a variety of control tasks in vessels of all sizes, including yachts, cargo ships and cruise liners: Beckhoff control components enable flexible and cost-efficient realisation of controls for lighting, HVAC, individual room control - for example in passenger ships - as well as measurement technology, engine monitoring and Condition Monitoring.

Embedded PC series CX5100 with multi-core Technology The CX5100 Embedded PC series offers compact, DIN rail-mountable control devices with up to four processor cores. They offer multi-core technology for controllers in the medium performance class and lower price range and can be used to execute Condition Monitoring applications on a separate core - without performance implications for the controller. The CPU is based on the latest Intel Atom generation and offers virtually limitless resources for the implementation of advanced PLC and Motion Control applications, with or without visualisation functionality.

Robust and compact: Embedded PCs with integrated I/O Interface Beckhoff offers scalable controllers for shipbuilding, ranging from Industrial PCs to Embedded PCs. Beckhoff Embedded PCs are modularly expandable Industrial PCs that can be used in shipbuilding as central or local controllers. The CX2000 Embedded PC series currently offers the most powerful control system platform. With dual and quad-core versions the compact devices cover performance ranges which previously have been reserved for Industrial PCs. CX2000 The all-in-one system for all automation Tasks The Bus Terminal system enables the connection of the complete sensor/actuator level. Over 400 different Bus Terminals cover the complete range of digital and analog signal types. Automation, measurement technology as well as compact drive solutions can be realised in a single system. Bus Couplers are available for all relevant bus systems for the open and busneutral I/O system, from Ethernet and EtherCAT through to PROFIBUS. Cable redundancy is simple to implement using the EtherCAT ring topology with copper or fi bre-optic cables. Bus Terminal TwinCAT: efficient engineering and maximum Performance On the software side TwinCAT integrates the PLC and the development environment in a single package. Numerous predefi ned PLC libraries - covering, for example, standard requirements in lighting, HVAC and Motion Control applications and other control tasks - reduce the engineering time. In addition to object-oriented extensions to IEC 61131-3, C and C++ are also available as programming languages. Thanks to the integration of MATLAB/Simulink, TwinCAT can be used for system simulations. TwinCAT 3 CP6606: Compact Panel PC for control rooms or cruise cabins The CP6606 'Economy' Panel PC, which combines control and display in a compact unit, offers an optimum price/performance ratio. Designed as a fanless built-in unit with 7' touch display, energy-saving 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU and 1 GB DDR3 RAM memory, the CP6606 is suitable for a wide range of applications in shipbuilding. Thanks to its elegant design, the compact control and operating unit also offers an excellent solution for the price-sensitive application area of individual room control in cruise cabins.
