Energy group E4 Carolinas names new CEO [The Charlotte Observer :: ](Charlotte Observer (NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 28--E4 Carolinas, a not-for-profit corporation that coordinates the Charlotte region's energy cluster, has named veteran entrepreneur David Doctor its president and chief executive. Doctor, who succeeds founding president Scott Carlberg and interim president Jim Little, said he will work to expand membership and member services of the two-year-old organization. Doctor, most recently at Duke University, entered the energy industry in the 1980s. He worked in natural gas deregulation with Texas Gas Transmission Corp. and as cofounder of EnTrade Corp., an energy marketing and trading company. In the 1990s Doctor led Tenneco Energy Resources Corp. and was CEO of Genscape Inc., an energy information startup. Doctor helped create 16 startup companies, most of them in energy. He was twice named Ernst & Young's Regional Entrepreneur of the Year. Doctor also served eight years as the University of Louisville's College of Business Bank One entrepreneur in residence. For the past two years, Doctor has been director of engagement and administration at Duke University's Energy Initiative. He'll begin work at E4 Carolinas on Tuesday. "The depth and breadth of his experience will benefit the organization's members and the Carolinas region," E4 Chairman Tom Franch said in a statement. "His demonstrated leadership will have a profound impact on the organization's next stages of development." E4 also named Michael Trent as business manager.
